Experience the Vibrant Nightlife While in Naples

Young and excited to experience some musical entertainment, gustatory delights, or the vibrant night life while staying or visiting Naples (a place that’s bustling with activity somewhere in southern Italy in the region of Campania)?

Even in the hotel where you’re booked, you can have wholesome fun. There are chic upscale night clubs featuring  great bands that can play melodious tunes of the 60′s through the 90′s, like the one at the Ritz-Carlton Resort. Alternative clubs also exist, like the those in Piazza dei Martiri, Piazza Amedeo and Piazza San Pasquale. Wine bars, of course, also abound.  Energetic souls may also dance the night away at the popular discotheque La Mela in Via dei Mille.

There are many other popular hotspots  in Naples. When the sun sets, you can enjoy a stroll  along one of the stunning beaches or at a semi social center called the Galleria Umberto I  which is a 19th century gallery a stone’s throw away from Teatro San Carlo, a large theater built in 1737. There are many restaurants that are also worth trying. Travelers recommend venerable pizzerias like Sorbillo and Di Matteo. Sorbillo is a family-run pizzeria noted for its topnotch ingredients, and excellent and wine by the glass. The story goes that local pizza used to be white and only had pork cracklings and then anchovies as garnishings. It was only in the 1760′s that tomatoes, along with garlic, oregano, and oil came to be used as part of breakfast fare for mariners. A century later, pizza with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella named after Queen Margherita, came into being.

Some restaurants worth checking out for a light evening meal or snack are the Ciro a Santa Brigida, a haven for Neapolitan cooking; and the Gran Cafe Gambrinus, one of the oldest cafes in Naples that serves pizza, cakes and pastries.

For individuals raring for lots of evening action, there are the bars that may require a great deal of cash at hand.  Seasoned travelers advise being alert to what is being offered to you.

Some nightclubs, like The Chez Moi, are favorite haunts of frequented by clothing designers, government officials and socialites. If you want to mingle with the younger set, there’s Madison Street, a disco that offers drink, dancing, videotaped films and rock concerts, and loads of unadulterated fun. Also recommended is the Piazza di Spagna for those who love dancing.  There’s a cover charge, though, during the later part of the evening. Music enthusiasts, particularly jazz lovers, may want to visit the Riot.

Gays are in for a great time, what with nightclubs that offer incredible views of the Bay of Pozzuoli and mount Vesuvius.

Indeed, Naples is a great place not only for sightseeing and updating oneself on Italy’s history and culture, but also for forgetting the pressures and  stresses of the outside world, even for just a while.

The Weather

When you travel to Italy, it’s important to know that despite its geographical position at the center of the temperate zone, Italy has rather variable climatic characteristics. This is due to the presence of the Mediterranean, whose warm waters mitigate thermal extremes, and the Alpine arc, which forms a barrier against the cold north winds. Furthermore, when you travel Italy, remember that Italy is subject to both wet and moderate atmospheric currents from the Atlantic Ocean and dry and cold ones from Eastern Europe.

The Apennine chain too, confronting the wet winds from the Tyrrhenian, causes considerable climatic differences between the opposite sides of the peninsula. The differences in temperature between the winter and summer months are more marked in the northern regions than in the south and along the coasts. The mean temperatures for the month of January in the Po Plain fluctuate around zero, while in the Alpine valleys the thermometer can drop to -20º and snow can remain on the ground for many weeks.

In the southern regions, instead, the mean temperatures for January remain around 10º, with the exception of the inland mountainous zones. Mean summer temperatures throughout all Italy rise to 24º-25º for July, only being lower in the highest zones. Rainfall distribution also varies considerably, due to the influence of both mountains and prevailing winds. The highest quantities are registered in the Alpine arc (over 3,000 mm pa in the Lepontine and Julian Alps) and on the Apennines (over 3,000 mm pa in the Apuan Alps). The plains, however, including that of the Po, receive scarce precipitation. Generally it is less than 800-900 mm pa but in the southern regions (Tavoliere and southern Sicily) it falls below 600 mm pa. The great internal Alpine valleys and the coastal plains of the Tyrrhenian (Maremma) and Sardinia also receive little rain. Altogether, six large climatic regions can be distinguished, mainly characterized by mountain influence.

So as you can see, when you travel to Italy, there is much to experience. The culture, history, and beauty of Italy make Italy a top European travel destination.
