Need suggestions on how to find a good travel tour for Italy?

Me and my sister are planning a trip to Italy at the end of this year (Dec – Jan 09). We are planning on flying from NYC, is there any good travel tour that goes from NYC to Italy? or should be travel by ourselves and join the local tour when we get to Italy?
